I am interested in creating structures. Although my structures try to achieve permanence, solidity and invulnerability, they fail. My structures and all man’s structures fail when confronted with the powerful cosmic natural elements. What remains is a flawed, sometimes beautiful attempt at survival. My structures also have an emotional internal animus resulting from the attempt to withstand and survive time and the elements. Altered, aged, bent, broken, they still survive. Most of my pieces are made from moist, plastic, primordial clay. This building material aligns appropriately with my efforts. My structures are symbols of man’s unsuccessful attempt to control and colonize the planet for eternity.
