Lynn Martell

Lynn Martell

Lynn Martell is a fine artist who paints in oil and watercolor. During the past few years the East End landscape has dominated her work. Lynn’s father, born on the island of Elba off the western coast of Italy, was a fabric dyer and finisher developing color formulas. Lynn spent time in the dye house where her father taught her the complexities of color essentials and value tones.

Lynn studied charcoal and pastel drawing and watercolor painting at the Art Students of New York. During her last year at the League she won First Honors at the annual class exhibition. She also studied at the University of Paris for a year. Her entry into law school and the decades that followed as a public interest lawyer and law professor at New York University School of Law curtailed development of her art.  Serious lawyering and serious art work were not compatible.

Since leaving the practice of law and law teaching, Lynn has devoted herself to painting primarily landscape in oil and wet-in-wet watercolor.  She has taken classes with botanical watercolorist Karen Kluglein and landscape painter Janet Jennings.

In 2010-2011 Lynn was a member of the Bell’Arte Group of six artists who work in various media.  She is also a member of the East Hampton Artists Alliance. Lynn has exhibited at the following venues:
